Last night was a true gift.
While one (one very important) community member came out to our meet-up, six members of the local Bikers Against Child Abuse (BACA) chapter were in attendance. With the small intimate group, we were able to get to know BACA and these members a bit better and understand the incredible work that they are doing.
If you are unfamiliar with BACA, this is what they are about:
Bikers Against Child Abuse, Inc. (B.A.C.A.) exists with the intent to create a safer environment for abused children. We exist as a body of Bikers to empower children to not feel afraid of the world in which they live. We stand ready to lend support to our wounded friends by involving them with an established, united organization. We work in conjunction with local and state officials who are already in place to protect children. We desire to send a clear message to all involved with the abused child that this child is part of our organization, and that we are prepared to lend our physical and emotional support to them by affiliation, and our physical presence. We stand at the ready to shield these children from further abuse. We do not condone the use of violence or physical force in any manner, however, if circumstances arise such that we are the only obstacle preventing a child from further abuse, we stand ready to be that obstacle. [BACA]
We learned a lot we didn’t know about these incredible volunteers, like the outstanding amount of training that is required by each member before they join. Did you know they have two years of training before they are even considered to be patched in? Wow, that is a major commitment! We encourage everyone to check them out at the link above and learn more about how they are keeping children around the world safe.
We also had Amanda from Serenity Now Wellness in attendance with us. She is a massage therapist at the centre that specializes in a trauma-informed practice for her clients. She explained to us how important it is for her to know that her clients with a trauma history feel comfortable while receiving her services. Such an important thing, and it’s great to know of more professionals in the city that offer a trauma-informed practice.
